Lesson 14: WordPad (Styling and Formatting Text)
What Will You Learn?
In Notepad, we only learned plain typing. In WordPad, we will learn how to make our work look "Beautiful and Professional." This is the first step towards writing office letters or applications.
1. How to Open WordPad?
1. Press the Windows Key (🪟).
2. Type using the keyboard: WordPad.
3. Press Enter. You will notice that it has more buttons compared to Notepad.

2. Text Formatting: How to Change Style
WordPad features a toolbar at the top called the Ribbon. But remember: Before changing anything, you must "Highlight" (select) the text with your mouse!
- Font Size: Choose size 20 for headings and size 12 for normal writing.
- Bold (B): To make an important word or heading look darker.
- Italic (I): To give the text a slightly tilted (stylized) look.
- Underline (U): To draw a line under the heading.
- Text Color (A): Click here to choose colors like Red or Blue.
3. Alignment: Placing Text Correctly
In office documents, headings are often placed in the center of the page. WordPad has buttons with four horizontal lines for Alignment:
Clicking the Center button will move your highlighted text exactly to the middle of the page.
4. Step-by-Step Practice (Leave Application)
1. Type: LEAVE APPLICATION
2. Highlight it with the mouse, set size to 20, and click Bold (B).
3. Click Center from the alignment options.
4. Now press Enter, set size back to 12, click Left alignment, and type the remaining details.

Tip: "The first rule of formatting is—HIGHLIGHT FIRST. Without selecting the text, the computer won't know where to apply the design!"
