Lesson 0: No Computer or Laptop? Still Learn and Get a Job (Step-by-Step Plan)
What You Will Learn
Friends, many people ask me: "Ma'am, we really want to learn computers, but we don't have our own laptop." And then they say: "How will we get a job if we don't know computers?"
This can feel like a big problem. But remember one thing — a computer is just a machine, but the skill lives in your mind.
If you have the desire to learn, you can build computer skills without buying your own laptop. In this lesson, you will get a practical plan that will help you:
- • learn basic computer skills
- • understand Word and Excel
- • and gradually reach your first job
Step 1: Make Your Mobile Your First Teacher
If you are reading this blog, it means you already have a smartphone. That is where your learning can begin.
Theory and Concepts
Read the lessons on this website carefully on your mobile. The most important thing in learning computers is — understanding the concept. Once the concept is clear, working on the actual machine becomes very easy.
Using Mobile Apps
Microsoft Office free mobile apps are available today:
- • Microsoft Word
- • Microsoft Excel
Using these apps, you can:
- • practice basic typing
- • understand simple Excel formulas
- • view and edit documents
This will gradually build your confidence.
Step 2: "Notebook Method" – Practice in Your Mind
When you don't have a laptop, a notebook can become your biggest tool. Make a separate copy where you write your computer learning notes.
Write down shortcuts:
Ctrl + C → Copy
Ctrl + V → Paste
Ctrl + S → Save
Ctrl + Z → Undo
Write down Excel formulas:
=SUM(A1:A10)
=AVERAGE(A1:A10)
When you write these down and try to understand them, by the time you sit at a computer, you will remember everything. This creates automatic practice in your mind.
Step 3: 3 Free or Cheap Ways to Access a Computer
Once you have learned the theory, practical practice is also necessary. If you don't have your own laptop, you can use these methods:
1. Public Libraries and Skill Development Centres
In many places, computer labs are available under government schemes:
- • PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana)
- • Local Skill Development Centres
You can get practice time there.
2. Smart Use of Cyber Cafes
You don't need to use a cyber cafe every day. You can go once a week and use a computer for 1 hour for just ₹20–30. In that 1 hour:
- • practise the steps written in your notebook
- • do typing practice
- • try Excel and Word
Your speed will gradually improve.
3. "Ask a Friend" Method
If a friend, relative, or neighbour has a laptop, you can politely ask: "I just need the laptop for 1 hour to practise." When people see that you are learning seriously, they usually help.
Step 4: The Journey from Your First Job to Your Own Computer
Your goal is not just to learn computers. Your real goal is — to get a job where you get the opportunity to work on a computer.
The salary may not be high in the beginning. But there will be one big benefit — you will get 8 hours of computer access every day. That will become your real learning zone.
If you work hard there:
- • in 3–6 months your computer speed will increase
- • you will learn new skills
- • and gradually you will become capable of buying your own laptop
